Death Note Episode 1 Synopsis
In the shinigami world, a shinigami named Ryuk seems to be busy with something, while the other shinigami are relaxing and playing around. and ignore the class. On the way home, various crimes are reported on public television. In each world, Ryuk and Light reflect on how rotten the world has become.
In class the next day, Light saw his notebook on the floor. He picks up his notebook after school. At his home, he suspiciously examines the rules written in his notebook and decides to test them by writing down the names of the criminals involved in the hostage crisis on live television. Forty seconds later, when he tried to turn off the television, the hostage escaped the building unharmed. The culprit dies of a heart attack, much to Wright's surprise.
Not convinced it was a coincidence, Wright decided to test the notebook again. He chooses not to kill Sudo, the school bully, so as not to kill someone he actually knows. On his way home from supplementary school, he witnesses a young woman being abused by a motorcycle gang. Upon hearing that the leader's name is Takuo Shibuimaru, Light goes to the store and writes various variations of Takuo's name to make sure his name is spelled correctly. To test the notebook further, Wright writes a car accident as the cause of death. 40 seconds later, Takuo is run over by a passing truck.
Light becomes nauseous when he realizes he killed two people.
In the Shinigami world, other Shinigami laugh at Ryuk who dropped the Death Note in the human world. Expressionless, it sprouts wings and flies through portals.
Wright comes home from school and tells his mother the results of the national exam. He scoffs at the first place reward offer and goes to his room to be alone. When I open the Death Note, several pages of the notebook are filled with names. Ryuk appears and Light screams and falls off the chair in surprise. Ryuk introduces himself as the Shinigami who dropped the notebook. Light gathers himself and informs Ryuk that he has been waiting for him, Ryuk is impressed by how many times Light has used the Death Note in just his five days and gives Light more information about the notebook Offers.
Wright explains that he killed criminals with heart attacks in hopes that people would start to realize someone was judging them. Dedicated to ridding the world of evil, he expects that once people realize someone is watching them and killing evildoers, everyone else will conform to goodness. Ryuk wonders if this will make Light the only bad guy, but Light wipes it out, claiming to be one of Japan's top students who rules the New World as a god. Ryuk seems happy to have found something very interesting in the human world.
