Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 1 Synopsis
A young high school student finds himself tied to a chair across from a blindfolded man in a room full of amulets. A man named Satoru Gojo asks student Yuji Itadori what "someone" he is now. Yuji eventually remembers a man named Fushiguro and worries about his senior as well. However, Gojo reminds Yuuji that he has no time to deal with the others as a "secret death" is instituted. The day before, Yuji calls Sugisa and the hospital to ask how his grandfather is doing, but the grandfather asks him to go to the club. The night before, Jujutsu practitioner Megumi Fushiguro went to Sugisawa Kogen to find the 'cursed thing'. Otherwise, he calls Satoru Gojo, but says he can't go home until he gets the item back.
Along with Iguchi and Sasaki from the Yuuji Club, the Student President threatens to shut down the Occult Club. To prove their research, they talk to the president about their theory that the students on the rugby pitch might be under the influence of the paranormal. However, the president refutes their claim, saying that ticks are the cause of the athlete's illness. And Yuji belongs to the Athletic Club, not the Occult Club. The team coach interrupts and asks Yuji to help them catch the nationals. To fix this, the two agree to a match on the spot. Meanwhile, a student jiu-jitsu technician wears a mask and searches for a cursed object. Finally, he sees Yuuji's advantage in the nuke throwing competition. Yuji throws the ball like a baseball, accidentally breaking the world record and cementing his place in the Occult Club.
Sasaki and Iguchi convince Yuuji that he doesn't have to stay at his club, but he chooses for personal reasons. Megumi is impressed by Yuuji's performance and compares him to Maki Zenin, a high school student at Jujutsu Tech. Yuuji walks past Megumi and the latter notices the cursed energy coming from possible contact with the cursed object. But before Megumi can confront him, Yuji rushes to the hospital to see his grandfather. Yuuji's grandfather is unhappy that Yuuji came looking for him, as he doesn't want his grandson to waste his time. He wants to tell Yuuji about his parents, but the young man refuses to listen. They argue, but the old man decides to give his grandson an important message. He asks Yuuji to use his gift to save others so he can die surrounded by people. Shortly after, Yuji's grandfather passed away peacefully.
Yuuji is saddened and packs up and goes to the lobby to fill out the paperwork. There, Megumi follows Yuji and introduces herself. Yuuji is sad but asks to talk. He asks Yuuji for a cursed item, a mysterious item encountered by an occult group. To explain, Megumi reveals the truth about the curse.
The curse is created by a large concentration of man-made negative energy. The cursed things Yuji finds are connected, and the amulet covering them weakens, making them dangerous. Yuji hands over a box containing cursed items, but the box is empty. The contents are in the hands of other members of the occult fraternity who plan to break the seal at the school tonight. Megumi is shocked when Yuuji tells her this, causing Yuuji to doubt the seriousness of the situation. Megumi says it's worse than bad and replies that Yuuji's friends will die.
Elsewhere in Mount Sugisawa, Sasaki and Iguchi infiltrate to retrieve the seal. They do this in the dark for the right mood and open the contents of the amulet with their fingers. Suddenly, the light that gives them light goes out and unbeknownst to the students, curses begin to rain down. Arriving at school, Yuuji feels a strange pressure, and Megumi asks Yuuji to stay. Yuuji calls for help to save his friend, but the young jujutsu student insists on staying behind.
Inside, Sasaki hides from the monsters roaming the halls of the 4th floor. Iguchi appears next to him, but a small curse grips his head. Nazar casts a massive curse that attacks Sasaki from behind. Megumi enters the building and suffers another curse. Able to defend herself with jujutsu, Megumi summons the dog gods and orders them to feast on her enemies. Yuuji is outside, wondering why he's hesitating. He realizes it's because he's afraid of death, but he wasn't afraid when his grandfather died either. He wonders how different his death is from his grandfather's and remembers what he said about helping others.
The number of curses in the building increases as Megumi and her god dog cut in to save the students. He turns a corner and sees a lot of curses combined to try and consume both students with the cursed substance. Megumi knows he won't be there in time, but Yuuji suddenly falls from a window on the 4th floor. Yuji knows that his grandfather died peacefully, but such a death is not fair. Using superhuman athletic abilities, Yuuji saves his friends and allows Megumi's dogs to eat the curse. Megumi doesn't know why Yuuji helped her, but she praises him. Yuuji asks about the dog that will be Megumi's shikigami, and Megumi replies that Yuuji will be able to see them tonight because of her experience. Yuuji admitted that he was afraid, but acted to prevent this tragedy and give his friends a good death. As Megumi tries to retrieve Ryomen and Sukuna's fingers, a cursed object with special properties, a curse suddenly falls from the floor above them. Pushing Yuji aside, Megumi is cursed. He tries to summon Nue, another shikigami, but the curse hits him and even knocks the young wizard off the wall. Because of his wounds, God's dogs are driven away.
Yuuji fights before the curse kills Megumi. Despite his incredible athleticism, he cannot deal cursed damage without using his cursed energy. A devastated Yuuji almost put his finger in the curse's mouth. He barely catches it in his mouth and decides to eat his finger to get the cursed energy that will save everyone. Despite Megumi's disbelief, Yuji swallows his finger, symbolizing Sukuna's power with Ryo. Yuuji kills the curse easily, but Megumi worries that this is the worst case scenario. Ryomen Sukuna is reborn and wants to kill all of humanity. He realizes that this era is perfect for killing people, but Yuji suppresses Sukuna and takes control of his body. Meanwhile, Megumi prepares to summon a shikigami, saying that Yuuji will banish the Itadori curse.
